The Lions club has performed many long standing services to Verona over the 75 years and here are examples of each of the major contributions we have made as volunteers.

TThe hospital loan closet provides walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, shower chairs, commodes, and hospital beds free of charge to Verona residents. We have provided this service to residents for over 40 years and this service has been a vital contribution to the health and well-being of Verona residents.
Over the past few years, the Verona Lions have helped to send 5 large shipping containers of medical supplies and equipment to Ukraine hospitals. We are proud to collect and help the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee (UUARC) who provides vital assistance. The value of our equipment donations is estimated over $35,000. Our vital contributions have made it to Ukraine hospitals.
The Verona Lions collect and repurpose used eyeglasses from optometrists and area residents to help under privileged countries. We collect these used glasses at our yellow mailboxes in front of the Verona Community Center and West Caldwell Post Office and transport them to a central location for cleaning, prescription cataloging and shipment. Another example of how we serve others.
The Verona Lions has assisted the Camp Marcella services to the blind. We have maintained properties used by the camp to provide vital services to blind children and adults.
The Verona Lions has provided the Township of Verona a medical transport vehicle that enables residents an affordable service via the Township health department for rides from their residence to area doctor and hospital appointments. This is a vital service for any Verona and Cedar Grove resident that needs medical transport. The Lions recently donated $20,000 to assist the Township purchase a new 2026 Chevy Equinox EV vehicle.
Each year the Verona Lions seeks applications and grants service awards to Verona resident students who graduate high school. Applications are reviewed and recipients are chosen based on volunteer service. We wish to lead by example and encourage youth to give back to others.
The Verona Lions in cooperation with the Verona Library offer residents a collection of large print books. These offer a great service for visually impaired readers that require large fonts to enjoy reading. These books can be found at the Verona Library and also at the Verona Community Center.
Many residents have taken advantage of the Verona bus stops on Bloomfield Avenue. These bus shelters provide residents convenient and safe coverage from the weather. The Lions maintain the shelters in cooperation with the Verona DPW. In addition to these shelters located at Verona Park and across from the Verona Community Center we provided community signs at the town square.
The Verona Lions in cooperation with the Township of Verona Health department has donated and distributed to needy residents Shop Rite gift cards. This service provides help to those individuals and families during difficult times. We have been providing over $3000 in gift cards donations annually.
